My Story — Why I Do This Work
From nurse to patient — and back again, with purpose.
I'm Gina Schwartz, RN, WCC — a nurse with 20+ years of clinical experience and a patient who got lost in the same system I spent decades working inside.

I'm not just a nurse.
I'm a patient who got lost in the same system I spent 20 years working inside.
I've worked ER, ICU, cardiac, home health, and public health — and I'm a certified wound care expert with over 10 years in wound care. I know how medicine should work. I know what good care looks like. I know how critical thinking, pattern recognition, and early intervention can change outcomes.
And then one day… I became the one falling through the cracks.
What started as subtle changes turned into something I couldn't ignore.
Breathing became harder. My energy disappeared. My body stopped responding the way it always had. Simple things — like feeding my chickens — left me exhausted, with my oxygen dropping and my heart racing.
I knew something wasn't right.
But knowing… and being heard… are two very different things.
I went through the same cycle so many of my clients have experienced:
Symptoms that didn't "fit neatly"
Test results that were looked at in isolation instead of as a whole
Specialists who stayed in their lane instead of connecting the dots
Concerns that were minimized or brushed off
Even with my background in medicine, even knowing the language, even knowing what to push for…
I struggled to be taken seriously.
That's when it hit me:
"If this is happening to me — a nurse with 20 years of experience — what is happening to everyone else?"
So I stopped waiting.
I started advocating for myself the way I wish someone had done from the beginning:
Pulling together my records
Identifying patterns across systems
Pushing for the right referrals
Asking better, more precise questions
Refusing to accept "normal" when my body clearly wasn't
And things started to shift.
Not because the system changed…
But because how I navigated it changed.
Why Anchor Advocacy Exists
I built Anchor Advocacy for one reason:
No one should have to fight this hard to be heard, understood, and properly treated.
When you're sick, overwhelmed, and exhausted — the last thing you should have to do is:
Decode medical language
Coordinate multiple providers
Fight insurance
Prove that something is wrong
That's where I come in. I help you:
Make sense of what's happening in your body
Connect the dots your providers may be missing
Organize and present your case clearly
Navigate the system strategically — not blindly
Advocate with confidence, not desperation
What Makes Me Different
I don't just understand medicine.
I understand what it feels like to be:
Dismissed
Misunderstood
Exhausted
Scared
Still expected to function
I bring both sides together:
Clinical Expertise
20 years across ER, ICU, cardiac, home health, public health & certified wound care
Real Patient Experience
I've been the patient who wasn't heard — and found the way through
That combination changes everything.
When I'm not in the trenches helping people fight through the healthcare system, I'm usually covered in paint or stain — or out with my hands in the dirt. I've got a bit of a green thumb and a strong pull toward bringing life back into things most people overlook.
I take furniture that's beat up, forgotten, or ready to be tossed aside and turn it into something beautiful again. Same goes for the spaces around me — I like to create life, color, and calm wherever I can.
Truth is, that's just who I am.
I don't walk away from things that are struggling or worn down. I see what they can be — and I go to work. Whether it's a person, a space, or a piece of furniture, I'm going to help bring it back to life and remind it of its worth.
I'll also be honest: I'm a bit of a rebel. Tell me something can't be done and I'll spend the next three days figuring out how to do it. That stubbornness has served me well — in the ER, in my own health journey, and in fighting for clients who've been told "no" one too many times.
